· Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment-based work authorization. F-1 visa holders with Optional Practical Training (OPT) who will require H-1B status, TNs, or current H-1B visa holders will not be considered. Preferred Qualifications:

Assistant Director of Industry Engagement
Atlanta University Center Data Science Initiative
The Atlanta University Center (AUC) Data Science Initiative (DSI) invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Industry Engagement beginning as early as January 1, 2024. As part of the leadership team, the Assistant Director of Industry Engagement is responsible for working with the Director to develop programs, forge industry connections, and foster other career supports at HBCUs with a focus on strengthening computing and computer science and computing departments and connecting students to careers and professionals. This position will support the recruitment and activities of in-demand computing or computer science faculty members (up to 3 positions) at Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, and Spelman College. This position will support the work of these faculty members, who will catalyze the development of industry-informed curriculum and programming across computing and computer science departments at HBCUs. The Assistant Director of Industry Engagement will establish the HBCU Data Science Career Hub to connect HBCU students to data science careers and industry professionals. The Hub will engage with HBCU career services offices to provide training that prepares students for data science-oriented positions.
To perform this job successfully, the Assistant Director of Industry Engagement must be able to handle competing priorities in a growing initiative by effectively leveraging resources to meet deadlines for numerous projects. To carry out these duties, the Assistant Director of Industry Engagement will develop and be responsible for managing personnel and budgets that come under these areas. The ideal candidate will have computer science expertise and experience in working with industry and higher education on data science-related activities. The Assistant Director of Industry Engagement will serve an initial three-year term, renewable depending on funding, and may be on a non-paid leave of absence from their home institution.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to be involved in important strategic efforts to drive a data-grounded perspective, help Best Buy think critically and differently about all aspects of our business to improve our core capabilities, and unleash the next generation of customer experiences that will transform the way Best Buy operates day-to-day.
Hybrid – These roles are hybrid, which means you must be located within a drivable distance to our Best Buy corporate office in Atlanta, GA. You may be asked to come into the office up to 3 days per week.
What you’ll do
• Apply scientific methods to solve real-world business problems using data
• Utilize cutting edge statistical and machine learning methods to dig deep into complex data to deliver data-driven solutions across all areas of the business
• Bring a broad and deep knowledge of machine learning and artificial intelligence to enhancing Best Buy’s core data science capabilities
• Leverage best practices from software development & design to support building scalable, legible, and reproducible machine learning experiments
• Work with key business partners to identify the biggest opportunities to influence key decisions that impact and improve the lives of millions of people
Basic qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in a highly quantitative field (e.g. Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Math, Operations Research, etc) or equivalent experience.
• Intermediate data mining skills with an ability to work with massive datasets
• Experience with at least one deep learning framework (e.g., pytorch, tensorflow) and one generalized statistical and machine learning library (e.g., Scikit-Learn)
• Experience with scientific computing in a cloud environment (e.g., GCP, AWS, Azure)
• 2 years of experience contributing to development of ML and/or AI driven products or capabilities or other related functions (e.g. ML science or engineering, data science, advanced analytics). Advanced degrees in relevant fields may be counted towards experience requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
• Master’s degree or higher in a highly quantitative field (e.g. Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Math, Operations Research, etc)
• Previous retail industry experience in data science, machine learning, or AI
• Strong familiarity with designing large-scale machine learning experiments in GCP using VertexAI

The GRA will be responsible for providing research and administrative support to the “Communities Who Know” (CWK) Principal Investigator and other research staff. Likewise, the GRA will help manage a team of undergraduate researchers. The successful candidate will work up to 15 hours per week.
GRA Duties and Responsibilities:
