Turning Data Into Impact: 2025 Data Challenge Highlights

What happens when HBCU talent, real-world data, and purpose-driven innovation come together?

The 2025 Mastercard x AUC Data Challenge brought together 150+ students from 25 HBCUs to tackle pressing community and economic challenges—using data as a tool for impact. Over eight weeks, students transformed ideas into insight and action, culminating in a high-energy final pitch showcase where more than $52,000 was awarded.

Hosted by the Atlanta University Center Consortium Data Science Initiative in collaboration with the Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth, the challenge continues to demonstrate what’s possible when students are trusted with real problems—and real platforms.
